A Dramatic First Lap Of The Mexico City Gp Saw Sergio Perezs Race Retirement On The Opening Lap Of His Home Grand Prix

Sergio Perez Crash Out At The First Corner Of The 2023 Mexico City Grand Prix

A dramatic first lap of the Mexico City GP saw Sergio Perez’s race retirement on the opening lap of his home Grand Prix.

Perez, who started fourth on the grid, was involved in a collision with Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc at the first corner, damaging his car beyond repair. The incident brought out the safety car, and Perez was forced to retire to the pits.

The crash was a major disappointment for Perez, who had been hoping to score a strong result in front of his home crowd. However, he admitted that he took a risk at the first corner and would do it again.

"I took a risk at the first corner, and I paid the price. But I would do it again. I wanted to give my fans something to cheer about, and I was hoping to get a good result for the team."

The race was eventually won by Red Bull’s Max Verstappen, who took the lead from Leclerc on the opening lap and never looked back. Leclerc finished second, and Mercedes’s George Russell completed the podium.
